The Packers Early Days

1919 Packers

The Green Bay Packers were originally founded in 1919 by Curly Lambeau and George Calhoun. The Packers existed in an era pre-NFL, the league they initially played in was called the American Professional Football Association (AFPA) which was renamed to National Football league the year following the Packers introduction. The Packers first 5 years were met with many financial struggles due to harsh weathered seasons and lack of popularity.


1929-1931

The Packers first great season came in 1921 when the Packers recorded a record of 12-0-1 (W-L-Tie). The Packers completed this season winning their first NFL championship. The Packers continued this success throughout the following years: finishing 10-3-1 in 1930 and 12-2. The packers won the championship title in both of these seasons making them the first NFL team to win 3 straight championships.


1935-1944

Packers sign legendary defensive end Don Hutson in 1935. The Packers win their 4th NFL championship in 1936 following an 11-1-1 season. The Packers fall to the New York Giants 23-17 in the 1938 Championship game, but follow it up by defeating the Giants 27-0 in the 1939 Championship game to win their 5th NFL championship. Packers win their 6th title by defeating the Giants once again in 1944.


1947-1958

The Packers have a drought and don't record a winning record for an entire season for 12 years


1961-1962

The Packers win 2 straight NFL championships.


1966-1968

Packers win 9th NFL championship in 1966. The Packers win the first ever Superbowl in 1967 over the Cowboys. The Packers repeat, defeating the Oakland raiders in the second Superbowl (1968) resulting in their 11th championship.


1982-1992

The Packers don't make a single playoff appearance.


1996-1997

The Packers fall to the Dallas Cowboys in the 1996 Superbowl, and follow it up by defeating the New England Patriots in the 1997 Superbowl
