The Detroit Pistons

DETROIT BASKETBALL!

The Detroit Pistons were founded by Fred Zollner, owner of a piston manufacturing plant, in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1941. They were originally known as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons an NBL team (National Basketball League). The Pistons moved to Detroit in 1957 after joining the NBA, hoping to capatilize on the city's booming automobile industry. The Detroit Pistons were very successful in the late 80s and early 200s as they went on to win 3 NBA championships (1989, 1990 and 2004). The Pistons in the late 80s/ early 90s were known as the "bad boy pistons" they were notorious for wearing their opponents down physically through whatever means necessary.

The Detroit Pistons were a notoriously bad team throughout the 2010s, known for struggling as they only made the playoffs a single time between 2010 and 2024. This playoff appearance was short lived as the Pistons were defeated 0-4 by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2018-19 NBA playoffs. Recently however, the Pistons have seen success under new head coach J.B Bickerstaff, and behind star point guard Cade Cunningham, leading the team to a playoff appearance in the 2024-25 season. Unfortunately resulting in a 2-4 loss to the NY Knicks, yet despite this loss the Pistons have a bright future behind a strong core of young talented players.
